PLANS AND DRAWINGS

This section contains drawings (as DXF files - standard vector line export files from a CAD program) for the items described here on the WORKSHOP PROJECTS page. Miscellaneous drawings from other sources will also be listed when available, though they may be in other formats unless I can convert them. If you do not have a DXF-capable CAD program you will also find in the ZIP file an A4 postcript version which you can print out directly. Alternatively, PaintShop Pro will read DXF files, though unfortunately my experience suggests that the poor scaling control produces a crude image (you will need the MS DXF file import filter installed to scale the imported picture). Additonally, the MS filter does not seem to import some of the dimensions on my setup.

Note: to print the PS versions, at the DOS prompt enter TYPE DRW_NAME.PLT>PRN where DRW_NAME is the name of the postcript file.

If you cannot print postscript and don't have DXF capability, or you have other problems with the drawings, you can download the files in BitMap (BMP) format to be viewed/printed in any graphics image software (though the drawings cannot be edited of course).

Clamp (straddle) Knurler - this version adapted for rear toolpost, but could easily be changed to normal toolpost. Photo on Projects page under item 'rear toolpost'. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
MT taper setting gauge - a simple device for use as described on Projects page. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
Lathe mandrel handle - picture on Projects page. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
Toolpost by Autodesk - design given as a free sample with AutoCAD, could be useful as a mico-adjustable rear tool holder.
Rear toolpost base - the base unit I use for all the attachments, and a basic turret. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
'Floating' Tailstock tap/die/reamer holder - First draft of the prototype - be warned!. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
Tailstock sensitive drill attachment - Very useful for those small delicate drills. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
Jacot drum attachment - Mounted in tailstock, for filing/stoning narrow spindles. (DXF and PS)
Tailstock 3-jaw spindle - For mounting a free-spinning 3-jaw chuck in the tailstock. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
Roller Mill (tumbler) - For smoothing/polishing. SHEET 1: General arrangement. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format (all drawings).
Roller Mill (tumbler) - For smoothing/polishing. SHEET 2: Rolls and support brackets. (DXF and PS)

Lathe backstop - For Myford Super 7. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
Lathe cross-slide stop - For Myford Super 7. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format.
Taper Turning Attachment - For Myford series 7 lathes. SHEET 1: Slide arm, link arm, sliding block. (DXF and PS format), or in BMP format (all drawings).
Taper Turning Attachment - For Myford series 7 lathes. SHEET 2,3,4: Base unit (elevations posted as 3 files because of size). (DXF and PS)

LOCOMOTIVES

From Erik-Jan Stroetinga, parts for a GWR 14xx class 0-4-2 tank engine:
Boiler - Metric dimensions. (DXF and PS).
Cylinder - Metric dimensions. Fabricated from bar stock. (DXF and PS).
Siderods - Metric dimensions. GWR rods. (DXF and PS).

From Michael Jones, a list of modifications to Rob Roy drawings (0-6-0 tank engine to Martin Evans design). These modifications are to correct dimensional and design errors present in both early and late sets of plans.

STATIONARY ENGINES AND OTHER MODELS

DODI steam engine - a simple stationary steam engine - this is a link to the Modeltech site.
Oscillating Engine - Drawing by Erik-Jan Stroetinga for a simple oscillating steam engine. A perfect design for first time builders and students. The drawing is in ACAD 13, 138Kb in size. Email me if you need a conversion to another format.
Oscillating Engine - The above drawings by Erik-Jan Stroetinga in BMP format.
Here are pictures of the working parts and also finished models.
