QUORN TOOL & CUTTER GRINDER

Trial assembly stage.(95k) Component parts(144k)
The finished tool.(152k)

Some Comments from Ron Chernich regarding the pictures above:
The one with the red background was taken at a "trial
assembly" stage quite some time back. The finished one shows the
broached square tool holder in the work head. Also worth note is the
little brass block with scribed feducal (sp?) for setting the wheel head
against the 1 degree graduations on the column collar, per the MkII
design. The holes are a bit oversize, allowing the zero to be set
accurately, then locked up. The third shot is a bunch of accessories.
Top row, from the left are:
. Myford nose spindle (for my collets)
. Spiraling head spindle, nose collet and tail nut
. Other spindle (1/4 and 3/8 ID I think - or perhaps 3/16)
. Spindle with split collar
(split to hold 3/4" OD at one end and 1" ID cutters using a 1/4BSW
+ washer on the other)
. Funny split block with ball handles
. Packing block for small (3/16 - 3/8) square HSS tools in broached
holder
. Spindle with minature (Dremal) collet chuck (to hold dermal abrasive
wheels, drills, etc)
. Tooth rest and rod (goes with funny block)
In the middle are the two "setting pins" (which if I'd had sense, I'd
have used the Quorn itself to finish to size rather than all the effort
expended on end mills and vertical slides) and at the bottom are the
spiraling head assembly (not yet used in anger) and the column clamp
ring for the tooth rest and funny block.
Ron Chernich's notes concerning the construction of his Quorn tool and cutter grinder can be found on his web site.
